We know how debilitating a painful dental emergency can be. You can count on Dr. Altomonte and his competent staff to quickly assess your situation and do whatever we can to address your emergency and relieve your pain. If you are experiencing an emergency such as extreme mouth pain, or if you have injured or lost a tooth, call us immediately at (908) 687-2332 so we can schedule you to come into our office as soon as possible.

Toothache: If you have a toothache, try to gently clean the area around the tooth by rinsing your mouth with warm water and using dental floss to clean the area surrounding the tooth. Apply a cold compress to your cheek to help ease or prevent swelling. Swallowing an over-the-counter pain reliever may also help ease the pain until you are able to see Dr. Altomonte for treatment.

Cracked or Broken Tooth: If you have cracked or broken a tooth, clean the area by rinsing your mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to your face to help ease or prevent swelling. See Dr. Altomonte as soon as possible, and bring the broken tooth fragment with you if you can.

Lost Tooth:
If you have lost a tooth, stay calm. It is very important not to allow the tooth to dry out. Find the tooth, rinse it with clean water (do not scrub the tooth clean), and try to gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket. If the tooth cannot be replaced into its socket, prevent it from drying out by submerging it in milk or your saliva in a clean container. Stop any bleeding in your mouth by applying gentle pressure with clean gauze, and see Dr. Altomonte as soon as possible.
